5. You can do an independent calculation for each spouse and then combine each of your files for an integrated calculation for both spouses.

9. Our real life model takes into account not only the market value of your non-registered assets, but also their book value. Also, you can use a portion or all of the proceeds of the sale of your personal residence for retirement income and life insurance proceeds are added to the non-registered assets of the last surviving spouse.

10. RetireWare keeps track separately of your registered assets in RRSPs and RRIFs and assets in locked-in accounts to apply the special withdrawal provisions applicable to each type of account. You can choose to receive your withdrawls from a RRIF or as an annuity. As well, RetireWare supports Spousal RRSPs and province-specific Life Income Funds (LIF) and Locked-in Retirement Income Funds (LRIF).

11. RetireWare accomodates all kinds of assets, such as property other than the principal residence, business ownership, cash value of life insurance, retiring allowance, other future payments or inheritance.

12. In addition to employment earnings and all types of investment income and registered withdrawals, RetireWare supports many other special income, such as rental and dividend income, pensions in-payment and prescribed annuities.

13. RetireWare estimates future Governement pensions, including Canada Pension Plan, Quebec Pension Plan, Old Age Security and Guaranteed Income Supplement. RetireWare applies the OAS Clawback provisions of the Income Tax Act.

14. RetireWare supports all types of company pension plans, including defined benefit, defined contribution, group RRSP, deferred profit sharing plan (DPSP), even a deferred pension or account balance from the pension plan of a prior employer.

15. For defined benefit pension plans, based on the annual pension statement information provided by your employer, RetireWare projects future accruals, takes into account bridge pensions, early retirement reductions, pre- and post-retirement cost-of-living adjustments, and survivor benefits.

16. If your employer subscribes to have a customized add-in that reflects the provisions of your pension plan, you can integrate this future asset with maximum accuracy with your other assets, savings and future income streams.

17. For maximum flexibility, you specify which assets to include as a source of future retirement income. You can include other future retirement income such as part-time earnings, use non-registered investment earnings and capital or investment earnings only, defer RRIF withdrawals as late as possible, take the age of your younger spouse to establish annual minimum RRIF withdrawals, sell your residence and use a portion or all of the proceeds for retirement income.

Asset Mix for Projections

18. Select one of the asset allocation profiles, your existing portfolio allocation or own custom asset allocation. Your selected asset allocation is then applied forward to calculate future expected rates of return used in the projections. There is always a direct relationship between your asset allocation strategy and the risk and return characteristics of your investments.

Tax Information

19. RetireWare's sophistication extends to the calculation of future income taxes. Using marginal tax rates is a simplistic approach that creates large distortions over time. RetireWare applies all existing and scheduled federal and provincial tax rates, scheduled indexation of tax brackets, provincial surtaxes where applicable, federal and provincial non-refundable tax credits, CPP contributions and EI premiums. In addition, RetireWare applies all RRSP deduction rules, calculates pension adjustments and deductible pension contributions.

20. The RetireWare summary shows graphically the main results: the asset allocation, the deviation from the target asset allocation, the assets at retirement and the shortfall from required assets, and the long-term projection of assets.
